This family genealogy has been hard to trace and has been compiled from bits and pieces from word of mouth to census records, ship manifests any other searchable works. One source said that Henrietta Brightenstein Hallengren was born in 1839 in Nassau, Germany and at the age of eight years came to America with her parents who were also of German birth. Their first home was in Maryland and they made a sojourn of three months to Virginia, after which they came as far west as Missouri and seven years later removed from that state across the plains to California. The journey was made with wagons and ox-teams and six months were spent on the road, after which the family settled in Eldorado County.
In the 1850 Census of Page County,
Virginia, John and Charlotte are living with the Geo. Bridenstine family and I
have found no further record of them. Christian and George were living
near each other, were they brothers? Both on the Neptune. William in
the same County, not on the Neptune, another brother? John was not found
on the 1850 census or the Neptune but does have children with similar names.
